Job description
About the Role
Soapy Joe’s is looking for a skilled, hands-on Maintenance Technician to help keep our car wash locations operating safely, reliably, and at peak performance.
This is a field-based technical role responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing car wash tunnel equipment, process plumbing, and related electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. You’ll work directly at our locations to solve equipment issues, complete preventive maintenance, and ensure repairs are done right the first time.
We’re looking for someone who takes ownership, enjoys solving technical problems, and doesn’t stop at the quick fix. When equipment fails repeatedly, you’ll dig deeper to identify the root cause and implement a lasting solution.
What You’ll Do
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair car wash tunnel equipment, process plumbing, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, including VFDs.
- Respond to assigned maintenance work orders and perform hands-on, onsite diagnosis of equipment issues.
- Complete preventive maintenance on schedule and identify developing problems before they result in equipment failure or downtime.
- Test repaired equipment under operating conditions to confirm the issue has been fully resolved before closing the work order.
- Identify root causes of repeat equipment failures and implement lasting corrective solutions.
- Submit parts requests promptly and help ensure repairs move forward without unnecessary delays.
Site & Preventive Maintenance
- Visit assigned locations regularly to inspect tunnel equipment and process plumbing.
- Partner with site leaders to review open maintenance needs and identify developing equipment issues.
- Help keep car wash locations operating at high levels of reliability, safety, efficiency, and wash quality.
- Maintain accurate work order and preventive maintenance records in TRACER, including diagnosis, work performed, parts, status, next steps, and repair verification.
Communication & Collaboration
- Keep site leadership informed about equipment issues, repair progress, expected follow-up, and operational impacts.
- Coordinate with Facilities and other internal partners when repairs involve multiple building or operating systems.
- Escalate significant or recurring equipment concerns appropriately and communicate obstacles that could delay repairs.
- Contribute ideas that improve equipment reliability, maintenance practices, and overall site performance.
Safety
- Follow company safety procedures and applicable OSHA requirements.
- Properly use tools, equipment, and required personal protective equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Perform maintenance and repairs with safety, quality, and long-term reliability in mind.
What We’re Looking For
Our ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, technically capable, and comfortable troubleshooting equipment in a fast-paced operating environment.
You’ll be a strong fit if you have:
- Hands-on experience maintaining or repairing industrial, automotive, manufacturing, car wash, or similar mechanical equipment.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Experience working with electrical, plumbing, hydraulic, and/or pneumatic systems.
- Familiarity with VFDs and electric motors is highly valuable.
- Ability to read equipment documentation, diagrams, manuals, and technical specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify root causes rather than relying on temporary fixes.
- Ability to manage multiple maintenance priorities and follow through until repairs are complete.
- Strong communication skills when working with site leaders and other departments.
- Comfort using a computerized maintenance or work-order system to document repairs and follow-up.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel between assigned Soapy Joe’s locations.
- The ability to safely perform the physical duties associated with hands-on equipment maintenance.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means more than completing work orders. It means helping our locations stay operational and preventing problems from coming back.
You’ll make an impact by:
- Completing preventive maintenance consistently and on schedule.
- Responding to equipment issues quickly and performing accurate onsite diagnoses.
- Keeping work orders current with clear documentation and next steps.
- Completing repairs correctly and verifying equipment operation before closing the job.
- Reducing repeat equipment failures through effective root-cause problem solving.
- Proactively identifying equipment concerns before they become larger operational issues.
- Building strong working relationships with site leaders and the Maintenance team.
- Keeping safety, equipment reliability, and wash quality at the center of every repair.
The Right Fit
You’re someone who likes figuring out why something isn’t working.
You’re comfortable getting your hands dirty, working through a problem methodically, and taking responsibility for seeing a repair through to completion. You don’t consider a work order finished simply because the equipment turns back on. You test your work, confirm the problem is resolved, and make sure the solution will hold up.
You also understand that great maintenance is proactive. You notice developing problems, communicate clearly, document what you find, and look for opportunities to make the equipment and the maintenance program better.
