A backend developer in Berlin opens a remote job at a US company, reads to the bottom and finds “must reside in the United States.” That’s the usual result. Of 7,475 active remote jobs WFH.team counted in August 2026, only 3.4% were open worldwide and 65.2% were US-only (WFH.team, 2026).
Here are companies that hire location-independent, meaning their remote roles are open to people in any country. We read their current job postings and left out roles that name one country, one region or a city. Where a role still asks for certain working hours, the table says so.
Quick answer: which companies hire remotely from any country?
Well-known companies that hire remotely from any country include Supabase, GitLab, Automattic, Doist, Cal.com, Fingerprint, Genki, Canonical, Camunda, Metabase, VRChat, Superside, Oyster and Tether. Below them are many more, grouped by field: software engineering, AI and data, security, design, marketing, customer success, teaching and legal work. Each company name links to its own careers page, where you apply directly.
How did we build this list?
We started from remote jobs marked as open worldwide and read each posting’s full text, looking for the phrases that quietly limit where you can live: “must reside in”, “based in”, “authorized to work in the US”, named countries, time zone bands and “unpaid”. Any role with a country or city rule came out. A company made the list only if its roles are open to any country.
We also dropped a few companies whose roles looked worldwide on the job board but weren’t once you read them. One design role asked for someone “based in Mumbai”, a content reviewer role was for “UK, AUS, NZ applicants only”, and an internship was unpaid.
The roles in the tables are examples of what each company hires for. Openings change, so check the company’s careers page for current ones, or search remote jobs open worldwide on JobUnlocked.

What does “open to any country” really mean?
It means no country rule, but there can still be other limits. Before you apply, check three things.
1. A short list of countries. Some fully remote employers hire only where they have a legal setup. The Wikimedia Foundation, for example, hires in the US plus about 19 named countries, including Brazil, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Spain and the UK, through a local employer of record. Germany is on it, so a developer in Berlin can apply. Portugal isn’t, so a developer in Lisbon can’t, however remote the role. Because of lists like this, we left Wikimedia’s roles out of the tables.
2. Working hours. A role can be open everywhere and still need your day to overlap with the team’s. Percona’s PostgreSQL technical writer role is open worldwide, but the team’s median time zone is UTC−2 and it recommends staying within four hours of that. From Berlin that’s a normal working day; from Asia or Australia it means night shifts. Europe sits in the overlap for most of these teams: Oyster asks for UTC−5 to UTC+3, Genki works around German business hours and Tiger Data wants overlap with Europe or the US. Look for “UTC”, “overlap” or US time zones near the end of the posting.
3. Excluded countries. Sanctions and payroll rules knock out a handful of countries even at the most open companies. Fingerprint says it can’t have teammates in “a small number of countries”. Social Links names Russia and Belarus.
How do you get hired and paid from another country?
Usually in one of two ways. You join as a contractor and invoice the company, often in US dollars. Or the company uses an employer of record (EOR), a firm that hires you in your own country, runs local payroll and handles tax and benefits. Oyster HR, which appears in the table above, is one of those firms. As a contractor you handle your own taxes. Through an EOR you get a normal payslip.
Either way, you need the right to work where you live. Fingerprint and Trust Wallet both say so directly, and Fingerprint adds that it doesn’t sponsor visas.
How do you find more companies that hire worldwide?
Go to the company’s own careers page, as with everyone above. Jobs listed there are current, and the posting tells you the real location rules. Three habits help:
- Search by the words that matter. “Anywhere”, “worldwide”, “global” and “any country” in the title or location line are good signs. “Remote, US” or “Remote, EMEA” are not.
- Read the last third of the posting first. Location rules, working hours and eligibility usually sit near the end, after the duties.
- Apply early. Worldwide roles draw applicants from everywhere, so the first few days count. Remote jobs posted today is a good daily check.
When you apply, send a resume shaped for that one job. JobUnlocked’s resume builder can tailor your resume to a posting, and it checks every rewritten line against your original and reverts any line that adds a tool, skill, number or duty you didn’t list. Keep the format plain so the hiring software reads it cleanly: see how to make an ATS-friendly resume.
Which company should you start with?
It depends on your work and where you live.
- Software engineers: Supabase, Canonical, Camunda and Metabase list the most engineering roles with no country rule. If you live far from Europe and the Americas, start with asynchronous teams like Doist, Cal.com and Supabase.
- Data and AI: Bio Protocol, a2z Radiology AI and Yotta Labs, which also has an intern role.
- Non-technical roles: Mode Mobile, Pro Coffee Gear and Passion.io for customer success; Omniscient Digital and EverAI for marketing; Mondosol and All Right for teaching.
- Students and new grads: Trust Wallet’s graduate program and Yotta Labs’ research intern role.
Bottom line: Only a few percent of remote jobs are open worldwide, so start from companies that already hire that way. Pick five from the tables above, read each posting’s location, hours and eligibility lines, and apply on the company’s own site within a few days of the posting.
